Reliable Wiring For Your Home
Residential Electrical Wiring in Calgary
Electrical house wiring is one of our primary services for both new build renovations and homeowners in Calgary.
Rewiring a house has a number of benefits, including saving money on your electric bill and preventing annoyances like flickering lights. It’s a lot of work though, and it’s important to know what to expect.
Depending on the age and size of your home, house electrical wiring might require you to replace more than just the wires. Your electrical panel may also have to be upgraded. We will discuss this with you as part of the initial assessment.
Your electrical house wiring project is going to cause some stress. We may have to lift the carpets and floorboards, or open walls and ceilings to access existing wiring or run new wiring. That’s why most people undertake this kind of project as part of a home renovation, when everything’s taken apart anyway. When it’s time for us to come in, we’ll replace old electrical wiring with new wiring and then test the circuits to make sure they are functioning correctly before connecting them to your electrical panel. Proper labelling of your panel will help find and troubleshoot any future problems.

Replacing Aluminum Wiring
In older homes, aluminum was used for the wiring. The biggest problem with aluminum is that it expands three times more than copper when the electricity heats it. When electricity isn’t running through it, the wire cools and contracts. Due to the expansion and contraction, the wire eventually becomes exposed to air and oxidizes, causing connection points to heat up, become loose (cold flow), and create the risk of fire.
If you’re getting your home rewired, we can help prevent issues that can occur with aluminum wire. We can replace the aluminum wire with copper wire, which requires the drywall to be removed. Alternatively, we can make sure that proper aluminum terminations with antioxidants are used to prevent oxidization, corrosion, and ‘cold flow’. Whatever your budget allows, we’ve got you covered.
Pigtail Aluminum Wiring
Some devices are created to be used with copper wire. One potential fix is pigtail aluminum wiring, where you splice a piece of copper wire with an approved connector for aluminum, and then connect the copper to the device. However, this may result in too many wires in the device box which can cause overheating in the box, the wires, or the device and may violate the electrical code.
Call us right away if you have aluminum wiring and notice:
- Lights flickering
- Strange smells
- Smoking or sparking around switches or receptacles
- Very warm faceplates or outlets
Electrical Renovation
Hands down, the best time to do electrical renovation is when you’re either building a new home or renovating all or part of an older home. We can help you with a variety of electrical services in Calgary.
Basement Wiring
Generally, the electrical rough-in work should take place after the plumbing and HVAC rough-in work is completed and all the framing is done. The electrical finishing will happen after the drywall has been installed and painting is complete, and in some cases after the flooring is installed.
The important thing is to plan your basement wiring well. Take into account light switch wiring and 3-way switch lighting during the planning phase (you must have 3-way switches at the top and bottom of the stairs and in hallways). Remember that the basement may need its own electrical panel and smoke / carbon monoxide detectors if it’s going to be used as a secondary suite.
Garage Wiring
Garage wiring is unique as many garages aren’t finished. We can advise you on the best way to wire the garage, taking into account all factors, such as whether you plan to finish the garage in the future for a workshop, disco bar, or man cave! Or if you’re adding an electric vehicle charging station.
New Home Wiring
If you’re having a new home wired, you’ll want to prepare for the use of home automation devices. To do this, we run neutral wires to all junction boxes so you can use them for home automation. We can advise you on some of the new technologies available for your home.
Electrical Outlet & GFCI Wiring
Many homeowners do their own electrical outlet wiring. But if you’re pressed for time or simply unsure of what to do, Clear Electrical Solutions is here to help. We can assist with all your outlets, including GFCI outlets and outdoor outlets.
What’s a GFCI outlet? Well, as you know, electricity and water don’t mix well. Enter the ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlet. GFCI outlets reduce your risk of electric shock in wet areas like bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, basements, pools, hot tubs, spa areas, and outdoor spaces. GFCI outlet wiring must be done correctly to ensure these special outlets do their job to protect you and your family from hazards and shocks.
Appliance Wiring
Some appliances have to be wired into your home’s electrical system. Clear Electrical Solutions can do this for you in much less time than you can do it yourself, ensuring it’s done correctly and safely. We can help with wiring for any appliance, including:
- Dishwashers
- Stove outlets
- Dryers
- Cooktops
- Wall ovens
- Built-in espresso machines
